Butter Beats History

Butter Beats was started in late 1998 early 1999 by Jason Dax Woodward aka KASINO. There was no hip hop store in Brisbane at that time and certainly not one like Butter Beats. It was with allot of help from partner at that time Queen Mc Tash, as well as Jigsaw Geoff who sold records on consignment. The first Butter Beats was in the back room of a clothing store called Urban Groove, props to Ashley and Lisa for giving us our first opportunity. We opened with a couple of boxes of punk and Hip Hop records, and a shipment of Dulux and Krylon spray cans.  The first location was on Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley and is now a bar called The Bowery and well worth a visit if in Brisbane.

A few years later we moved into the space where Trash Video had lived for 10 years prior to moving to the West End on Vulture Street. We stayed here 8 plus years. Then we moved around the corner to Brunswick Street staying here for a year. We then took 1 and a half year break from the Valley. We moved back into our spiritual home August 5, 2012.

Butter Beats current home is 11/8 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley, 4006.
