GOLDFIELDS ROCK CENTRAL VICTORIAN ROCK N ROLL Comp.
LABEL: GOLDFIELDS RECORDS
YEAR: 1980
FORMAT: VINYL LP
Had to pick this up with its great hand drawn swaggie front cover and on the back 3 pictures and great hand drawn logos for 3 Bendigo region based groups. The LP was basically a fund raising project for Bendigo indie radio station 3CCC FM Goldfields Community Radio at Castlemaine circa 1980. The comp features 3 local groups Sharp Toys who ft indie, nu wave tendencies, Cruize which is straight up pub rock, Public Enemy pub rockers.
SHARP TOYS to quote the back cover “Sharp Toys are a Castlemaine based band that have been playing their particular brand rock and roll for about 6 months. Aka
A1. Paper Love – almost Gary Numan dark intro straight into pop
A2. Weekend In The Country straight early 80s power rock lead singer has listening to some punk but doesn’t quite get there…. includes a shouted “fuck you” ….
A3. Nuclear Daisy – starts out like “The Strokes – Last Night” and goes straight to rock
A4. Hideaway – angst ridden tale of psychosis and trying to get back to the real world. Kinda cool nuwave vibe.
CRUIZE were a Bendigo based pub rock blues group, hipster greasefat.
A5. Small World – dross guitar country rock. Starts half okay and ides quickly…
A6. STD (Heavy Breathin) reminded me of Australian Crawl in a bad way. Upbeat surf twang….

PUBLIC ENEMY great name and in this case not so great band. Decent pub rockers that according to the back cover had been together less than a year together when this was recorded but had played in other groups together.
